Cooperation with the Almaty Zoo
The Almaty Zoo is unique for its rare species of animals, in particular saigas. The uniqueness of steppe antelopes is known for the fact that they annually bear offspring, which serves as the main indicator of the successful maintenance of wild animals in captivity.
Today, nine saigas live safely on the territory of the zoo, including four males and five females. All of them are offspring of saigas, arriving from Otar and Uralsk.
The zoo serves as the protection and protection of rare wild animals, especially saigas. The reverent attitude towards saiga is due to constant attacks by poachers, climate change and constant infections. The prairie antelope, exposed to a variety of external factors, has been listed as Critically Endangered, CR. Unfortunately, neither protected areas nor laws that are strengthened from year to year are able to stop the process of hunting artiodactyls.
In this regard, ASAR Live LLP cooperates with the Zoo on large-scale conservation of saiga. On the basis of the ASAR farm, located in the Ulytau Region, a nursery for breeding and domesticating saiga was created. The initiator was the famous lawyer, candidate of legal sciences Alzhappar Madiyar Aimurzauly. Being an enthusiast, Alzhappar M.A. stands on the side of protecting animals and providing all possible assistance to them.
The main goal of the project is to study the possibility of keeping steppe antelope in semi-free conditions on a farm, on the territory of which special spacious enclosures were built. Practical tasks include practicing the skills of manually feeding saigas with baby food, conducting medical examinations to improve the health of saigas under the close supervision of scientists and orderlies, as well as conducting controlled rutting of adult individuals and lambing. Activities to maintain saiga are carried out jointly with scientists from the West Kazakhstan Agricultural and Technical University after Zhangir Khan in the Ural city.
The result of cooperation between ASAR Live LLP and the Almaty Zoo were two saigas that arrived at the zoo directly from the nursery. Every year, saiga calves are visited by nursery staff to inspect and examine them. Such caring and special treatment is worth publicity and serves as an example of how prairie antelopes and humans can have the best possible relationship. Thanks to the nursery on the territory of the zoo, adults and children have the opportunity to observe rare animals that serve as the beauty of the steppe fields of Kazakhstan.
