The removal of saigas from nature for scientific purposes is carried out under the control of the State Inspectorate of Forestry and Wildlife of the Republic of Kazakhstan
According to literary and scientific sources, as well as having practical experience working with saigas, experts came to the conclusion that the best way to remove saigas alive, and further work with them in an enclosure, should be carried out with newborn saigas during the lambing period of females. In this way, the highest percentage of survival of saigas during the milking period is achieved, and in addition, when collecting newborns in the areas of lambing, females are selected for the most adaptable temperament, which calmly reacts to humans.
Before leaving for the removal of saigas, preparatory work of personnel and equipment is carried out, additional equipment and consumables, fuels and lubricants and spare parts, food and special uniforms for personnel, powdered milk and veterinary drugs for saigas, shipping boxes and much more are purchased.
As the accumulation of saigas in the field camp is sufficient for transportation by transport, saigas are prepared and transported from lambing areas to the «ASAR Live» nursery with placement in paddocks during the dairy period, where milk feeding and veterinary work with young saiga continue to be carried out during the first 3 months life.
Taking into account that saigas are a migratory species, lambing areas on the territory of Kazakhstan have already been established based on the total number of saigas in each population. If the number of saigas captured is small, it is advisable to place a camp in the area where the saigas are captured and observed; if the number of saigas seized is large, it is more profitable to place a field camp near populated areas, and carry out the capture by traveling to the lambing areas of saigas. In the field camp, several small pens are equipped to accommodate 15-20 saigas, in which training begins with adapting the calves to drink milk from the staff’s hands as well as veterinary work is carried out
Upon completion of work on removing saigas from the wild, a scientific organization prepares a report on the use of the permit to use wildlife and submits it to the authorized body in the field of protection, reproduction and use of wildlife.
The policy of the «ASAR Live» nursery is aimed at the conservation and rational use of saiga in order to develop the production and processing industries of the region and the well-being of the local population.
