There are several known methods for feeding young saiga, including those with a USSR patent, based on raw cattle milk with the addition of vitamins, microelements, fish oil and chicken eggs. However, researchers at Zhangir Khan University have concluded that feeding baby milk powder is the best method for the growth and development of young saiga antelopes.
During the milking period, young saiga are formed in groups of 15-20 animals in a separate enclosure with an area of about 500 sq.m. fenced with a metal or plastic mesh with a mesh size of 3*3 cm to a height of 1.8 m. This type of fencing during the dairy period is advisable to prevent injury to young animals during the process of growth and development. The pen is equipped with a watering hole, feeding troughs and a sun canopy, and a system of external and internal lighting and video surveillance is connected. Milk drinking is carried out by service personnel according to the feeding schedule and is rationed for each animal, with the drinking number of each head being registered, which allows you to monitor the health of the saigas and take timely measures
The milk-drinking period for saigas is the most labor-intensive in collecting and recording data on the growth and development of young animals, but it is also the best and extremely effective period for carrying out work on the environmental education of young people. During this period, young saiga antelopes are really curious and quickly learn how to behave with people and equipment, and later, as they grow and mature, the curiosity disappears in this species.
